Atlanta Community Food Bank Welcomes Summer Volunteers Ages 12 And Up

ATLANTA, GA, June 24, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Atlanta Community Food Bank, one of the nation's largest hunger-relief organizations, serving 29 counties in metro Atlanta and north Georgia, helping more than 715,000 people, is seeking volunteers this summer to join the fight against food insecurity. It has made opportunities available for youth 12 years and older starting June 1st. A wide variety of opportunities to make a difference exist, from completing important tasks such as sorting and packing food donations, to lending a hand to administrative work and more.

"Every person touched by food insecurity is potentially at risk of its harmful effects, and hunger is an especially damaging experience for children. The Food Bank is committed to providing hunger relief to those in our service area," said Veronica Broadfoot, Volunteer Services Manager of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. "Volunteers play a vital role at the Food Bank, and we are always in need of caring, compassionate volunteers to help us carry out our mission."

On-site opportunities to give back include assisting with food packing by sorting, inspecting and packing donated items. Those interested in volunteering can lend a hand either alone or with a group of family, friends, or teammates and make a difference

All volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The Food Bank no longer requires that masks be worn or for a volunteer to show proof of vaccination to serve. Masks are available for those that would prefer one. The Food Bank may reintroduce these requirements if periods of high community transmission occur.

"By serving this summer, we hope more students and their families will make an ongoing commitment to volunteering throughout the year," Broadfoot concluded.

Atlanta Community Food Bank offers a variety of ways to get involved in hunger relief efforts. Volunteer support allows the Food Bank to provide quality grocery items to nearly 700 nonprofit partner agencies in metro Atlanta and north Georgia.
