Celebrate National Lemonade Day with Tasty Treats

(BPT) - Aug. 20 is National Lemonade Day, and with temperatures reaching record highs, it's the perfect time to indulge in a thirst-quenching lemonade treat.

It's no wonder that lemonade has been an American fan favorite since the 1870s, especially during the summer months when you just can't seem to hydrate enough. It's scientifically proven that lemonade is a thirst quencher: tart, sour beverages stimulate salivation, and acidic drinks give the impression of hydration even after you've had the last drop. But that doesn't mean you have to stick to drinks.

This Lemonade Day, celebrate with the team at Milo's Tea Company, who put together two thirst-quenching treats, Lemonade Hibiscus Slushies and Strawberry Lemonade Creamsicles, featuring their classic lemonade.

Known for their iconic sweet tea, Milo's Tea Company brews fresh, all-natural lemonade that tastes just like homemade. With simple, natural ingredients, Milo's has been a trusted name in the beverage space for over 75 years.

Milo's Lemonade Hibiscus Slushy

Active time: 10 minutes

Total time: 10 minutes, plus 4 hours freezing

Serves: 2 (serving size: about 12 oz.)

1 and 1/2 cups water

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 single-serving hibiscus tea bags

1 and 1/2 cups Milo's Lemonade

  1. Bring water and sugar to a boil over medium-high heat in a small saucepan. Remove from heat, add tea bags, and cover the pot. Let stand for 5 minutes. Discard tea bags. Transfer tea to a liquid measuring cup and let cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes.
  2. Pour cooled tea into an ice cube mold (there is enough to fill 1 traditional plastic mold with either 14 or 16 spaces). Pour Milo's Lemonade into a separate mold. Freeze both until firm, at least 4 hours.
  3. Working in batches as necessary, place hibiscus tea cubes in a blender and top with lemonade cubes. Blend on high until smooth, about 30 seconds. If necessary, let the cubes soften in the blender for about 5 minutes before processing. Serve immediately.

Strawberry Lemonade Creamsicles

Active time: 10 minutes

Total time: 10 minutes, plus 4 hours freezing

Serves: 10 (Serving size: one 3-oz. ice pop)

1 cup sliced strawberries

20 oz. Milo's Lemonade

1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

  1. Divide strawberry slices evenly between each compartment of an ice pop mold, about 4 slices per cup. Set aside.
  2. Whisk together Milo's Lemonade and sweetened condensed milk in a large liquid measuring cup. Pour mixture into prepared ice pop mold over the sliced strawberries. Insert sticks and freeze until completely set, at least 4 hours.
