“The Best is Yet to Come” by Roy Haymond Jr. is a bitter-sweet love story set in the blue-collar world Because his girlfriend from the eleventh grade is no longer available, Brad becomes disillusioned. And a handful of casual relationships along the road only add to the confusion.

Then he sits by and observes as far too many of his high school friends are trapped in unsatisfying relationships. He finds himself sucked into a catastrophic marriage ten years later, only to be saved at the last minute by his high school girlfriend, who he had once thought he would marry.

He moves into the run-down house that she owns, and the two of them are shunned by their neighbors because they are “living in sin.”

However, they renovate the house and enroll in a slew of college courses before getting married and welcoming the first of their four children. A pivotal juncture in their relationship prompts Brad to reflect on all the highs and lows of their time together, some of it in silent dialogue.
