Los Angeles, CA - March 17, 2018 -

‘LOST BIRDS’ is an educational, historical fairytale perfect for all ages – to screen in Glendale, CA in April 2018.

By writer-director team, Ela Alyamac (‘Fairy Dust’) and Aren Perdeci’s historical fairytale, ‘LOST BIRDS’, depicts the 1915 Armenian tragedy, documented as one of the worst tragedies and wars in worldwide history – a topic that parents shouldn’t shield their children from, due to its educational benefits.

Alyamac and Perdeci’s educational and historical, ‘LOST BIRDS’, is uniquely cinematic for its approach to the 1915 Armenian tragedy, as the story is told through the innocent eyes two young siblings who were left behind during the mass deportations of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire of 1915. The narrative reveals the authentic and innocent perspective of young children in face of adversity, providing for audiences worldwide of all ages with the ability to experience and to become educated on one of the world’s most documented tragedies in worldwide history, which has impacted millions to this day.

To honor those impacted by the 1915 Armenian tragedy and to send the message of harmony and peace between conflicting countries universally, TriCoast Entertainment invites family and friends of all ages to watch the emotional, yet heartwarming historical film, ‘LOST BIRDS’, screening in Glendale, CA on April 24th, 2018 to honor Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.

“In the film we have seen many advantages of our actors because they have grown up with these stories and know things by heart. They did not need to act, they just made us live reality with every look and every little detail we had the privilege of capturing,” stated Perdeci in an interview with Simone Zoppellaro Yerevan.

‘LOST BIRDS’ begins on the day before Easter in 1915 in the Armenian village, Anatolia where two young siblings, Bedo and Maryam, break their mother’s forbidden rule – to leave the house to play, as she fears the village’s soldiers.

When the Bedo and Maryam return with the bird they’ve been nursing back to health, Bacik, they notice their house to be empty and the village to be ghost-like. Embodying the many children who were left behind during the mass deportations of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire of 1915, Bedo, Maryam, and Bacik, embark on a dangerous, yet poetically visual journey to find their mother.

Continuing the interview with Yerevan, Alyamac remarked, “All these things and more were written according to historical facts but because we experience them through the eyes of Bedo and Maryam, who were left behind during the exile, and who have a special World of their own, we experience it all in a fairytale like atmosphere. The story of Bedo and Maryam who loose their family overnight will echo the stories of thousands of Armenian orphans. In ‘LOST BIRDS’ we were able to capture something real and very magical at the same time”.

Adopting the perspective from the children provides for a genuine reflection of how they express, react and navigate the harsh adolescent world while experiencing one of the world’s most haunting tragedies, creating a powerful film where children, the often-overlooked heroes, become the real heroes that children can look up to.

Lost Birds has a poignant story and great performances from the young actors, as well as stunning and poetic visuals with beautiful music that sings to the soul. It ends on a bittersweet note, which resonates with the audience for days. The film is a labor of love that has been hand crafted for every small detail. Armenian actors, all decedents of the Ottoman Armenians give natural yet very powerful performances, opening a window to a time gone by,” wrote HFPA’s Aida Takla O’Reilly for the Golden Globe Awards Foreign Film Submissions.

Alyamac and Perdeci’s ‘LOST BIRDS’ is revolutionary worldwide and was a significant turning point for Turkish cinema as their historical drama is the first Turkish production to display the 1915 Armenian tragedy ever on the big screen.

“We believe that ‘LOST BIRDS’ will help people to share and discuss their own stories after they watch the film, and build a bridge between people who once lived on this land in harmony,” continued Alyamac to Yerevan

‘LOST BIRDS’ hopes to continue to be seen worldwide, sending the film’s message of harmony and peace, as well as sending the same message universally. Yerevan wrote, “This film can not change the fact that this tragedy took place, but it can help us to better understand each other and to look at the future with hope,” said Perdeci.
