NMTCs Finance $25 Million Facility Expansion, Job Creation in Durant, Oklahoma

DURANT, Okla. - December 18, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

National site selection and consulting firm, the HWH Group, today announced the groundbreaking of the BrucePac Durant facility expansion. Creating more than 211 new permanent jobs, the project was financed through federal New Markets Tax Credits, which are designed to break the cycle of disinvestment by incentivizing private capital investment in economically distressed communities.

“We are proud to serve the Durant community to help restore lost jobs and to retain BrucePac, one of Bryan County’s largest employers,” said Robbie Ruminer, President of the HWH Group. In 2014, the J.C. Potter Sausage facility closed its doors, displacing the remaining 90 workers from a peak of 300 employees. The availability of the NMTC program attracted BrucePac to the Durant facility and the company plans to continue to hire as many of these displaced employees as possible when the facility expansion and new equipment are complete.

BrucePac was founded in 1949 and is a family owned and operated national producer of cooked proteins (producing over 70 million pounds of beef, poultry, pork, turkey & seafood annually) in industrial, foodservice and retail markets to America's top food companies. With assistance from the HWH Group, BrucePac is now expanding its facility and investing over $25 million for industrial freezer, cooler and warehouse space and additional production equipment at the Durant facility and to create new jobs.

Steven Hattier, HWH Group Vice President, said, “We had unwavering support from our partners, including REI Development Corp., MetaFund, U.S. Bank and the City of Durant. Through the NMTC Program, BrucePac will continue to deliver strong growth and enhance quality of life for employees and citizens in the Durant community.”

BrucePac is one of the greenest food processors in the country and is dedicated to positively impacting the communities in which it operates. The expansion will re-enforce BrucePac's commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable practices and will be EarthWISE, Food Alliance and BRC Grade "A" Certified. The company has won awards in Durant including the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s Regents Business Partnership Excellence Award for its contributions to the community and the Ruiz Family Award for Innovation.
