The International Association of Women (IAW) recognizes Dawn Bolstad-Johnson as a 2019-2020 Influencer. She is acknowledged as a leader in environmental, health and safety practices. The International Association of Women (IAW) is a global in-person and online networking platform with nearly one million members, 1000+ in person and virtual events, over 100 Local US-based Chapters and International Chapters in several cities in China.

“I’m pleased to welcome Dawn into this exceptional group of professional women,” said IPDN President and IAW Spokesperson Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”

Dawn Bolstad-Johnson has more than 25 years of experience working to ensure the safety of professionals who work in environments that often pose serious health risks. In 2017, she founded Kaizen Safety Solutions, LLC, a company that provides “a broad range of services and solutions to help organizations facilitate positive change, manage risk to effectively minimize all preventable events, and achieve the organizational vision while optimizing performance and productivity and profitability.”

A longtime advocate for those working in the fire service industry, Ms. Bolstad-Johnson recently authored, "EXPOSED: Carcinogenic Exposures on the Fire Ground and 11 Work Practices to Minimize Risk," a book about the dangerous physical and emotional risks faced by firefighters and fire investigators. Featuring exhaustive, original research that reveals the dangers of airborne carcinogens, it provides important resources and outlines the steps all firefighters should and must take to protect themselves.

“This book serves as a reminder that guidance documents produced by the NFPA must be followed each time for every fire,” Ms. Bolstad-Johnson says. “Taking shortcuts leads to getting exposed.” She urges all fire service professionals to read her book, from fire chiefs to firefighters to volunteers, and use it as a guide to implement important life-saving and cost-effective practices.

Previously, Ms. Bolstad-Johnson was Director of HSEQ at PHI Air Medical LLC; an Adjunct Professor at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Safety Manager/Industrial Hygienist at City of Phoenix Fire Department. She has a Master of Public Health in Environmental/Occupational Health (MPH), a B.S. in Mathematics and a B.A. in Sociology. She is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and an American Industrial Hygiene Association Fellow.
