Michael Bloom Debuts Chicago Band and Releases Inaugural CD, 'Whisper in the Wind'

CHICAGO - April 22, 2019 - (Newswire.com)

Chicago-born blues guitarist, singer/songwriter, Michael Bloom, returns to the Windy City to launch his band, The Blues Prophecy, and his debut CD, Whisper in the Wind, at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 at Rosa’s Lounge; 3420 W. Armitage Avenue.

Bloom’s band includes guitarist Minoru Maruyama, Jeffery Labon on bass, Andrew “Blaze” Thomas on drums and Rick Sutton on keys.

Whisper in the Wind will be released as part of the Juke Joint CD Release party with Chicago Blues Hall of Fame legend, Mary Lane. Lane will be celebrating the release of her new Extended Play CD, The Real Mary Lane, as well as her just-released project, Travelin’ Woman.

“One thing I’ve learned,” Bloom says, “is that the blues is more than the notes you play, or the words you sing. It’s something you feel deep down inside, from a gnawing despair to a surge of joy. Blues is the music of struggle, but it’s also the music of hope. Like Buddy Guy - the man himself - says, ‘The blues is alive and well.’ It’s everywhere. Blues is life and life is the blues. Start living the blues. That’s the message I want to bring to the world. That’s The Blues Prophecy.”

About the Band and the CD Releases

The Juke Joint CD release party begins at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24 at Rosa’s Lounge at 3420 W. Armitage. For a $10 cover, guests enjoy live music from Mary Lane, Michael Bloom and the Blues Prophecy along with a free delta sampler plate that includes a red hot delta tamale.

About Michael Bloom

Bloom is a classically-trained guitarist, singer and songwriter of classic and original blues. From Oakland, CA to Chicago, IL, Bloom’s been writing and playing the blues in one form or another for most of his life. The poetic voices of Robert Johnson, Jimmy Reed, and Mississippi John Hurt, the lyrical lines of BB King and Otis Rush, the rhythms of Muddy Waters and Little Milton all echo through his songs.

Some of the places Bloom has performed include Rosa’s Lounge, Buddy Guy’s Legends, The Kingston Mines in Chicago, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale MS, Wild Bill’s in Memphis, Eli’s Mile High Club in Oakland CA, Starry Plow in Berkeley, CA, El Farol, Tiny’s Dine & Dance, Evangelo’s in Santa Fe, NM and the historic King William IV pub in Fenstanton, England.

While living in Chicago, Bloom played with blues legend Mary Lane, and her band The No Static Blues Band. Michael now resides in Santa Fe, NM and travels frequently for the blues to Chicago.

About Mary Lane

Mary Lane is the last of the blues singers who came up from the south to Chicago. At 83 years young, Travelin' Woman (10 original tracks) is only Lane's second solo release, 20 years following her debut. The new CD was produced by GRAMMY winner Jim Tullio and represents the real deal in true blues. Mary Lane was inducted into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame in 2017. Lane has sung with true blues greats like Howlin’ Wolf, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy and Robert Nighthawk.
