Jobless claims jump 37,000 to 230,000 in late April to hit 2 1/2-month high

The number of people who applied for unemployment benefits in late April surged to a two-and-a-half month high of 230,000, but the spike was likely exaggerated by spring break and the Easter holiday. New claims are still near historic lows.
