Son shines on NW charity homeless feed

Hajjah Naziha’s son joins HNCO and Organic Soul volunteers on Manchester homeless feed, during UK trip

North West charity HNCO (Hajjah Naziha Charitable Organisation) was established in honour of Hajjah Naziha Adil Kabbani; a remarkable woman in her own right, and daughter of Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil. Recently, Dr Nour, who is son to Hajjah Naziha and Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani has made a visit to the UK – from his home in Illinois – to see some of the great work the organisation is doing across the North West and beyond, in preparation for Qurbani 2019 and Eid al Adha.

As part of his trip, following a guided tour of HNCO HQ, where he met some of the volunteers, Dr Nour Kabbani accompanied the team on a homeless feed in Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens. The team – who regularly join up with Organic Soul to serve hot food and hand out snack packs to some of the city’s most vulnerable men and women – also took boxes of clothing on this occasion, which service users could help themselves to during the Friday evening session.

HNCO first started cooperating with Organic Soul, after a chance encounter during Ramadan, earlier this year. Organic Soul has been operating officially for around seven years, and sets up its free food stall in Manchester every Friday night, come rain or shine. During the Holy Month, this increases to a feed every night for 30 consecutive days; where the homeless and hungry can join the volunteers to break fast for an Iftar hot meal and drink, no questions asked.

When HNCO heard about the initiative, they offered to help out and after the first evening in Piccadilly Gardens; seeing what fantastic work Organic Soul was doing, and the amount of people that relied on them being there; made an on-the-spot commitment to help out as often as they could. HNCO also attends Burnley town centre once a week to help dish out food, snack packs, hygiene bags and even take a local barber, when he is available, for free haircuts and beard trims.

Since they started helping out at the end of May, HNCO estimates that since the end of May, it has fed close to 500 people already; all thanks to the donations of its kind and generous supporters, as well as help from local businesses.

During the rest of his stay, Dr Nour will accompany the charity as it makes its way around hospitals and hospices with gifts and donations to celebrate Eid al Adha. In addition to the food and clothing parcels for the homeless, the team has been busy getting teddy bears and toiletry hampers prepared for Pendleside Hospice and Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital after meeting some of the staff and patients during a recent community outreach program.
