A Legacy Genetics, (ALG)  is recognized as a world leader in environmentally sustainable, heat-tolerant, beef, and dairy cattle genetics, has appointed Dr. Roscoe M. Moore Jr., former U.S. Assistant Surgeon General as Senior Scientific Advisor and member of ALG’s  Scientific Advisory Board.

Roscoe M. Moore Jr. DVM, Ph.D., D.Sc, has a distinguished career in public service. He serves on the Board of Advisors for the Institute of Human Virology, which was founded by Dr. Robert (Bob) Gallo, the co-discoverer of the AIDS virus at the University of Maryland Medical School-Baltimore. He was Assistant U. S. Surgeon General under three Presidential Administrations and served as the U.S. Chief Veterinary Medical Officer appointed by former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop. Dr. Moore is the Founder and President of PH Rockwood LLC.

Dr. Moore served in the Office of the US Secretary of Health and Human Services, held the position of Associate Director for Development Support and African Affairs for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and served as the chief epidemiologist with the Centers of Devices and Radiological Health in the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Dr. Moore has written or co-authored over 100 publications covering a broad range of public health issues.

Michael W. Vieira, ALG’s  CEO and co-founder noted, “I am pleased to welcome Dr. Moore to our team at A Legacy’s Genetics. His experience as a Veterinarian and public health policy official will be extremely beneficial as we address the growing public health concerns with salmonella and E. coli. Dr. Moore’s perspective regarding the landscape of heat resistant cattle along with the ability of our cows to be salmonella and E. coli resistant will be an important one as we grow our organization.”

Dr. Moore commented, “I’m honored to be a member of A Legacy Genetics Scientific Advisory Board when ALG is increasing its efforts to expand to new markets. A strong need exists for new measures to address Salmonella and E. coli, particularly in the wake of recent outbreaks and recalls and the correlations to the rise in incidences of bovine tuberculosis throughout Europe and developing nations. I’m very pleased to be a part of these efforts.”

 About A Legacy Genetics

A Legacy Genetics, Inc. was founded to be a world leader in developing and providing elite, alternative genetics with a focus on cattle that are environmentally sustainable, heat-tolerant, and profitable. ALG's White Angus are the first Bos Taurus cattle breed to be developed with climate change in mind. Later ALG purchased and imported the world’s first Homozygous Slick Holstein bull. Cattle developed for heat-tolerance need fewer natural resources to stay cool, such as water and electricity. Heat-tolerant cattle also experience less stress in warmer environments, making them more animal welfare friendly. Most importantly cows that are more comfortable and less stressed are more profitable for the farmer and rancher. ALG now offers, Red Holsteins, Slick Holsteins, Polled Holsteins, Brown Swiss, Girolandos, White Angus, cattle that are A/2 A/2, and soon will be adding Senepol genetics. Environmental sustainability goes hand and hand with global food-security and food-safety. Most recently ALG has acquired a new patented technology that will allow them to identify cattle that are resistant to E. coli. and Salmonella. ALG already possesses cattle with these pathogen-resistant genes. These cattle are not only resistant to these pathogens, but will not shed them into the human food supply.
