5 things to love about fall

2019-10-07T00:01:00

(BPT) - There are plenty of things to love about fall. The crisp cool air is so invigorating, and it’s always exciting when a new school year begins — and a new football season heats up. Making the season more exciting are the fun holidays and treats that you and your family can look forward to.

Here are 5 things that everyone can enjoy this season.

1. Glorious fall colors

Mother Nature never disappoints when showing off her beautiful autumn hues. Make sure to take the time to capture nature at its prime. Walk around your local park for a breath of fresh air. Take Instagram-worthy pictures to remember the breathtaking sights and views long after the leaves have drifted away.

And if you don’t live in a region where the foliage dramatically changes colors, consider taking at least a long weekend from your usual routine to travel to one of the areas of the country where you can experience for yourself the vivid red, orange and yellow trees in their full glory, like Acadia National Park in Maine.

2. Halloween treats

Everyone loves Halloween trick-or-treating. Even if you don’t have kids to take around the neighborhood, the holiday gives you the perfect excuse to dress in a goofy costume, celebrate with friends and family and indulge in some sweet treats.

For when you want to take your fall feasting beyond candy, visit your nearest IHOP to check out the new Addams Family menu, available for a limited time, now through Nov. 3. Inspired by the movie, which is premiering next week, the menu offers plenty of items to tempt everyone in the family, such as Wednesday’s Web-Cakes, a festive stack of IHOP’s fluffy, signature buttermilk pancakes topped with cupcake icing then webbed with HERSHEY’S chocolate syrup and topped with violet whipped topping.

For a savory twist, sample Gomez’ Green Chili Omelette, made with marinated pulled pork, jack and cheddar cheeses, fire-roasted peppers and onions and green chile verde sauce topped with sour cream. Chase back the meal with Uncle Fester’s Chocolate Ice Scream Shake or Morticia’s Haunted Hot Chocolate.

3. Spooky movies

If scary movies are your thing this season, you can watch the latest horror film at home or go to the theaters with your friends and let the goosebumps and adrenaline evolve.

Everyone loves a little scare now and then, but if horror is not your thing, a suspenseful thriller or a kid-friendly movie might be just right for you and your family.

4. Cozy comfort

Cooler temps outside mean that it’s time to get out the soft, comfy sweaters and to snuggle up with blankets and a good book. You can enjoy all of your favorite comfort foods and warm yourself with hot, soothing drinks. You can even fire up the fireplace or light an outdoor fire pit to create cozy warmth and atmosphere as the nights get longer.

5. A cornucopia of sports

On top of the opening of the football season, fall also ushers in the World Series in baseball, the ending of soccer season and the start of basketball and hockey seasons. No matter what kind of sports you like to play and/or follow, chances are there’s plenty of college and professional sports that you can catch wherever you live.

Put your athletic skills to the test and arrange some fun pickup games outside with your friends, host a game day party or an awesome tailgate party so you can cheer on your hometown teams during the most active time of the year for your favorite sports.

Make the most of the fall season this year, before you blink and it's over. Savor all the sights, flavors and festivities that autumn brings with your friends and family, and you'll have great memories for years to come.
