Harbor Capital Advisors Launches Six New Harbor Funds

Harbor Capital Advisors, the investment adviser to the Harbor Funds family of no-load actively managed mutual funds, is excited to announce the expansion of its equity fund lineup with the launch of six new funds. Harbor is partnering with Robeco Institutional Asset Management US Inc. (“Robeco”) in launching a series of Conservative Equities funds across multiple geographic regions, and an active emerging markets equity fund. Additionally, Harbor is expanding its long-standing relationship with EARNEST Partners LLC (“EARNEST Partners”) with the addition of a US mid cap offering. The following funds launched on 12/1/2019:

  • Harbor Robeco US Conservative Equities Fund
  • Harbor Robeco International Conservative Equities Fund
  • Harbor Robeco Global Conservative Equities Fund
  • Harbor Robeco Emerging Markets Conservative Equities Fund
  • Harbor Robeco Emerging Markets Active Equities Fund
  • Harbor Mid Cap Fund

The Harbor Robeco Conservative Equities funds offer investors a pathway to investing with the potential for lower volatility and better downside protection. The Harbor Mid Cap Fund is a core offering rooted in EARNEST Partners’ strong, durable investment culture and process.

“This expansion of our investment options reflects Harbor’s commitment to delivering clients a diverse range of active, cost-aware investment solutions that seek to add more opportunity for return than enhanced index options given elevated expectations around volatility” said John Halaby, Head of Distribution at Harbor Capital Advisors. “We know this is top-of-mind for advisors and want to deliver Harbor solutions that they can use that address client concerns. Additionally, we are finding continued opportunities in equities across value and growth with EARNEST at the helm, and believe expanding into mid-caps offers advisors more ways to thoughtfully take advantage of a time-tested investment process.”

Robeco, founded in 1929, has a rich history of academic research and quantitative investing, and was chosen as subadviser after being vetted through Harbor’s rigorous selection process. The Harbor Robeco Conservative Equities funds will be managed by Robeco’s deep investment team led by Pim van Vliet. The Harbor Robeco Emerging Markets Active Equities Fund will be managed by Robeco’s Core Quant Equities Team led by Wilma de Groot.

EARNEST Partners has been a Harbor subadviser since 2001 and their consistent, disciplined investment process will be applied to the new Harbor Mid Cap Fund. The Fund will be managed by EARNEST Partners’ investment team of industry practitioners led by Paul Viera.

Investing in international and emerging markets poses special risks, including potentially greater price volatility due to social, political and economic factors, as well as currency exchange rate fluctuations. These risks are more severe for securities of issuers in emerging market regions.

Stock markets are volatile and equity values can decline significantly in response to adverse issuer, political, regulatory, market and economic conditions.

Stocks of mid cap companies pose special risks, including possible illiquidity and greater price volatility than stocks of larger, more established companies.

At times, a growth investing style may be out of favor with investors which could cause growth securities to underperform value or other equity securities.

EARNEST Partners LLC is a third-party subadviser to the Harbor Mid Cap Fund.

Robeco Institutional Asset Management US Inc. is an affiliate of the adviser, Harbor Capital Advisors, Inc.
