Dansker & Aspromonte Associates, New York Personal Injury Firm, Awards PTSD Scholarship to Dashanique Seymore, Nursing Student at AdventHealth University

Dansker & Aspromonte Associates is proud to announce the winner of the PTSD Scholarship

NEW YORK, NY, November 11, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dansker & Aspromonte Associates, the New York-metropolitan area personal injury law firm, awarded its Dansker & Aspromonte Associates PTSD scholarship to Dashanique Seymore, 23, a nursing student at AdventHealth University.

Steps away from the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers, Dansker & Aspromonte Associates established the PTSD scholarship because its associates were well-acquainted with how traumatized first responders, families of victims, and New Yorkers were by the attack. They also established the First Responder Scholarship.

But Miss Seymore reminded the firm that not all PTSD is triggered by one traumatic event, such as being at war or working as a first responder. Some PTSD builds up over time.

Miss Seymore had many of the symptoms, including despair to the point of considering suicide. She couldn't concentrate and she was full of despair and anxiety. At age 20, she turned to counseling and was diagnosed with PTSD.

In her essay (see link), she describes her life as "one prolonged war." That war started at age 3 when she was removed from her mother who had been declared unfit. She and her brother Jervontae were moved from foster family to foster family; each move was an exercise in anxiety, if not horror.

For many years in foster care, Miss Seymore was physically, sexually, mentally, and emotionally abused. She credits a few adults and friends, along with all her brothers, for supporting her and making a positive difference along the way.

Today, Miss Seymore is a nursing student who hopes to specialize in neonatal intensive care or pediatric care. She is the delighted mother of daughter Leilani. She wants to help others, and she wants to encourage others to seek help for their PTSD.
