CPAs Unite Online for 9th Annual CPA Day

A summary of this year's virtual GSCPA event to discuss issues affecting the accounting profession with Georgia legislators.

ATLANTA, GA, February 12, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Recently, over 150 members of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA) gathered online to discuss current and upcoming legislation affecting the profession. Due to COVID-19, GSCPA's 2021 CPA Day at the Gold Dome was held virtually this year.

"While our traditional in-person event along with meetings with legislators did not work with current state and local public health guidelines, the value of this important event remains the same. CPAs are uniquely qualified to act as a resource and provide Georgia's legislators with insight into the issues facing the accounting profession, the business community and the general public," GSCPA CEO Boyd Search said.

During this year's event, attendees were given updates on current legislative issues by CPA Legislators Rep. Carson, Rep. Wilkerson and Senator Billy Hickman. Afterward, David Curry, commissioner for The Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR), addressed the group on how the DOR is navigating the pandemic, and Georgia Public Policy Foundation's Kyle Wingfield also provided an update. Lastly, Path2College 529 Plan's Mitch Seabaugh and Executive Director Lynne Riley were kind enough to share their insights and information as well. The program ended with Paul Ziga from The Georgia Board of Accountancy addressing attendees on licensure in 2021.
