Rebuilding Together Central Florida Brings Brings Hope to Low-Income Homeowners in Orlando

Volunteers and Corporations come together for Holden Heights Residents in need

National Rebuilding Day for Orlando is May 7, 2022

What: Repairing homes for community members who otherwise could not afford them. Rebuilding Together is a nonprofit organization serving the Tampa Bay Area for 20 years. Now, they are expanding to neighborhoods in Orlando, and with the help of sponsors, partners, and over 75 volunteers, Rebuilding Together will turn these houses into safe and healthy homes. This event will provide exterior painting, landscaping, door replacements, and minor repair work to four homes, roof replacements to three houses, and the neighborhood will receive supplies and smoke detectors.

When: Saturday, May 7, 2022, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Where: 915 Citrus Street, Orlando, FL 32805

Why: Safe and Healthy Housing is the foundation of Rebuilding Together's home repair work, targeting significant safety and health hazards based on the Eight Principles of Healthy Homes: keep it dry, clean, pest-free, safe, contaminant-free, well-ventilated, maintained, and thermally controlled. Together, with their corporate and community partners, they will repair homes, revitalize communities and rebuild lives. Rebuilding Together's local affiliates and nearly 100,000 volunteers complete about 10,000 rebuild projects nationwide each year.

Who: Mr. Jones was born and raised in Orlando. He joined the U.S. Army, spending several years of his adult life serving our country. After his service, he worked as an engineer until he retired. Mr. Jones' health has deteriorated, but he wishes to remain in his home as it is his haven. His three sons ensure this is possible by caring for their father.

Mrs. Grinder has lived in her home for 40 years. She is now a widow but gives her husband, a U.S military veteran, most of the credit for the values instilled in her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Grinder has had two sons join the U.S. Army, two daughters who became nurses, and three grandchildren join the military. Mrs. Grinder has raised nine children in her home and currently lives with her two granddaughters.

Mrs. Lambert has lived in her home for 48 years and has become a staple in the community. Mrs. Lambert has one son and has been happily married for 50 years. She became the primary caregiver to her husband after he fell ill. Mrs. Lambert is a crossing guard in the paramour area.

Ms. Williams purchased her home 46 years ago, raising three children in her home and working full-time in the hospitality industry until she became employed with the Orange County Library, where she stayed until retiring.
