New country singer Simone Reyes teams up with international singing sensation SHANI to bring the country music barrier breaking female driven drinking anthem “(You’re My) Happy Hour” to the public.

Simone and SHANI have created a crowd-pleasing collaboration that gives a wink and a nod to female empowerment.  Traditional drinking songs in the country music genre have historically centered predominantly around male artists which positions “(You’re My) Happy Hour” as a welcome (and slightly overdue) addition to the country music roster of new music.

Simone Reyes is an ex-reality star, author, songwriter and social justice activist who launched a new career in country music after working behind the scenes in the world of hip hop for decades.  SHANI is a globally celebrated and accomplished recording artist, singer, composer, activist, director and producer. She has toured the globe with her superstar husband ANDY and has garnered an impressive fanbase. “(You’re My) Happy Hour”, written by Michael August and Jon D’Agostino, brings SHANI, for the first time, back to her down-home roots -having been born and raised in Arkansas – into the world of country music, a genre that New York born and bred Simone has embraced as a new artist.

“When I first heard ‘(You’re My) Happy Hour’ the demo was not surprisingly originally sung by a male.  I immediately knew I wanted to record it since drinking songs sung by females are rare.  I set out to record a song and produce a video that evoked the feeling of a roaring good time enjoyed by hard working women who share a sisterhood comradery as they tip a few back after a hard day’s work.  I knew I wanted it to be a female duet and couldn’t imagine singing it with anyone other than SHANI.  She has been an absolute dream to work with and I am thrilled to embark on this journey with her to share this song.” – Simone Reyes

“I loved the song and track instantly and was very excited to work with Simone who I both respect greatly for all  her accomplishments and activism, as well as  her great musical skills.  We had such a good time, though working remotely, figuring out the vocal arrangement and between us and Al Bonhomme who did an amazing job, I think we came up with something fresh, super fun and a long time coming.  The music video absolutely captures the spirit of the song – you can’t help but feel good with these gals and just smile and shake a little while watching. My Arkansas roots are representing  and I can’t wait for people to experience that spark that Simone felt the first time she heard it and am so glad she thought of me to help bring all to life.” – SHANISimone and SHANI recorded (You’re My) Happy Hour separately (and safely) from their own home studios over worst of the Covid pandemic and sent the files to producer Al Bonhomme who brought in other musicians from their home studios to work together on the song.  Once the song was mastered, they shot the song’s accompanying music video in Santa Monica, CA at the popular local’s favorite bar – Harvelle’s.

The video, shot by Frontman Media, turns the tables (and the shot glasses!) on the typically male dominated drinking song offerings while showcasing popular female talent from the West Coast. Portraying hard working women and their desire to let loose after the workday is done, are many vibrant female personalities from the world of burlesque including Monica Kay, Jessabelle Thunder, Georgie Leahy and Vanessa Burgundy. Also on board is Lindsay Palumbo, one of the West Coast’s only female flair bartenders.  Peter Cornwell plays an unruly inebriated patron.

The song “(You’re My) Happy Hour” and video will be released on all streaming platforms fittingly during the week of July 4, 2022 with the intention of setting off its own fireworks.
