The following message from Cigna Corporation’s President and Chief Executive Officer, David M. Cordani, was posted on Cigna's internal website.

One of Cigna's opportunities, and responsibilities, as a global health service leader is to help shape and contribute to the public dialogue on issues of significant societal importance. Earlier this week, Bloomberg – perhaps the world’s top financial information and media company – invited me to participate in two interviews focused on the future of health care, and how Cigna is addressing that future.

First, I conducted an interview with Jason Kelly and Carol Massar of Bloomberg Businessweek TV. Afterward, Bloomberg Businessweek’s editor, Joel Weber, and I participated in a "fireside chat" on stage (which you can watch here) at the Bloomberg Invest Summit, an invitation-only event bringing together senior executives from across the investment community.

In each interview I emphasized that, around the globe, the one consistency relative to health care is continuous change. In this dynamic environment, Cigna has especially differentiated itself through our mission of helping to improve health, well-being and sense of security, and through being champions for our customers. We’ve achieved significant results by being market focused, consumer focused and innovation focused – leveraging data to best meet the personalized health care needs of every individual, and emphasizing reward structures which prioritize the value of outcomes delivered, rather than simply the volume of services consumed.

We also discussed at length how our combination with Express Scripts will accelerate our ability to deliver more affordable, high-quality solutions, as well as expand our network, addressable markets and distribution capabilities. In addition, each interview devoted considerable time to Cigna's leadership in addressing the opioid and loneliness epidemics – something I’m tremendously proud of as our president and CEO.

Both interviews were compelling ones, and each thoroughly reinforced the contributions being made by our team of more than 45,000 colleagues throughout the world!
