Case Study 2.0 is an initiative that brings together architects to design and fast-track elevated, fire-resilient single-family home plans for easy adoption across thousands of parcels destroyed by fire. The program aims to expedite the rebuild process for homeowners who lost properties, while ensuring they are rebuilt to be more resistant to future fires by using resilient design practices and materials.

“We have worked diligently with local officials to ensure that plans approved through Case Study 2.0 move through permitting and inspection approvals quickly, allowing for our community to rebuild as soon as possible,” said Alison MacCracken, Pacific Palisades Community Liaison. “More than 5,000 homes were destroyed in the Pacific Palisades fires, and getting those families back quickly into safer homes through this enormous private and public partnership and collaboration will allow our community to heal.”

Architects selected to participate in Case Study 2.0 have agreed to create floor plans that meet three qualifications: beautiful designs, fire-resilient materials, and affordability ($500-$800 per square foot). Western Windows Systems was selected to be a window and door manufacturer for the effort and will offer its products at a reduced rate for homeowners who choose to build within the program.

Western Window Systems products use tempered double-pane windows, and its latest Vantage product line offers a new, Title 24-compliant thermal break technology. This provides owners with window and door products that combine luxury with protection, while contributing to a straightforward building/approval process.

“Part of our corporate culture and DNA is supporting the communities that support us, and we could not be more honored to have been chosen for this incredible initiative,” said Evan McMillin, Territory Sales Manager at Western Window Systems. “Our products offer resilient, high-end, award-winning design choices that will not only provide state-of-the-art innovation and protection from the elements, but also incredible views and the latest interior design trends. We can’t wait to see the community rebuilt with our entire product portfolio.”

Case Study 2.0 hopes to be a model that can be adopted in other locations where homeowners have been displaced due to natural disasters. The project aims to decrease permitting and inspection time by two months, in addition to the significant time savings created by having the design process already completed.
