As the iconic James Bond 007 theme song echoed through Wangfu Center in Beijing on Saturday, the dimly lit runway transformed into the backdrop for a spy thriller. This dramatic setting marked the launch of acclaimed Chinese-Dutch designer Hu Sheguang’s Autumn/Winter 2025 collection, titled “Exist.”
Models sporting oversized, exaggerated MYD sunglasses showcased garments featuring classic checkered patterns in various colors. Wearing flat caps or wide-brimmed hats, they presented women's suits with hourglass waistlines, curve-hugging pencil dresses, and mesh ruffles adorning the neck and cuffs. The designs challenged traditional gender norms by incorporating elements typically found in men's wardrobes, such as ties and bowties.
The new series, as explained by the designer, draws inspiration from the androgynous beauty of female characters in James Bond films. “Real Bond girls are never just sidekicks to the male heroes. Instead, they are the directors of their own life stories,” Hu stated during the post-show interview.
Hu’s show also highlighted the participation of older models, who are members of the Sheguang Hu Fashion Women's Army.
He stated that over 30 years of his design career have seen him evolve from dressing celebrities to helping women of all ages and backgrounds discover their sense of identity in fashion.
The show was part of the AW2025 Beijing Fashion Week, a key event in China’s fashion calendar, serving as a platform for established and emerging designers to showcase innovation, inclusivity, and cultural fusion.
