Renowned BJJ Fanatics catch wrestling instructors are slated to join former UFC champions at the largest catch wrestling immersion event in 2026.

-- Scientific Wrestling has announced that instructors affiliated with BJJ Fanatics will join UFC legends as part of CatchCon 2026, the organization’s largest catch wrestling event to date. The three-day training and competition event will take place May 1 to 3 in Las Vegas and is positioned as a meeting point for practitioners of Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ), mixed martial arts, and traditional catch-as-catch-can wrestling.

A representative from Scientific Wrestling explained that the expanded coaching roster reflects growing interest in catch wrestling from adjacent grappling communities. “The grappling meta has moved on from guard pulling to a game with a heavy emphasis on takedowns, wrestle-ups, and leglocks, as we’ve seen in most competitions,” the spokesperson said. “As a result, we’re seeing more people getting into catch, trying to unlock long-forgotten moves that can give them an advantage in their matches.”
Among the BJJ Fanatics instructors confirmed to teach at CatchCon 2026 are Sam Kressin, a fourth-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and long-time Scientific Wrestling coach; Scientific Wrestling coach and 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu black belt Jesse Marez; and Luis Ojeda, a competitive catch wrestler and instructor whose work bridges submission grappling and traditional catch principles.
They will be joined by several prominent figures from mixed martial arts, including Pat Miletich, a UFC Hall of Famer and former champion, and Frank Shamrock, a multi-organization MMA titleholder. Both are expected to contribute coaching sessions drawing from their experience applying catch wrestling concepts at the highest levels of professional competition.
Catch wrestling is a submission-oriented grappling style with roots in 19th-century England and early American wrestling circuits. Known for its emphasis on pins, pressure, and aggressive submission chains, the discipline has influenced modern MMA, professional wrestling, and no-gi grappling. In recent years, it has seen renewed interest as athletes explore techniques that predate modern sport-specific rule sets.
CatchCon was established as an immersive training camp designed to preserve and modernize catch-as-catch-can wrestling through instruction, certification, and live competition. The 2026 edition marks the event’s largest iteration, featuring multiple instructors, certification tracks, and competitive divisions over three days.
Registration for CatchCon 2026 is offered in tiered packages. The King of Sport tier includes three days of training, entry into one tournament division, and coaching and macebell certifications. Higher tiers add additional tournament entries, group dinners with instructors, and mentorship opportunities with select coaches.
In addition to training, the event will host competitive matches under catch wrestling rules. The King of Catch singles tournament and Shoot Pro tag team competition each offer $1,000 prizes for division winners.
