Former award-winning colleagues of WTM Television in Columbus, Georgia reunited to discuss a military-related documentary that would appeal to the audience of the station that includes Fort Benning, Georgia.  Both Military Brats, veteran journalist Dee Armstrong, who currently hosts the weekday show, " Midday" and former WTVM reporter, Jackie Wright, a San Francisco and Dallas based public relations professional with international work experience through collaboration with the Durban International Film Festival and NOSACONN Inc. (New Orleans South Africa Connection), talked this week about the challenges of military life.

Serendipitously, the segment on Wright's film "Love Separated in Life…Love Reunited in Honor, co-produced with siblings U.S. Army Veteran Joe N. Wright (8/15/1955-2/23/2022- https://www.lovereunited.org/in-memoriam), Stanley Wright and Phyllis Cameron, followed Armstrong's segment on Hulu's Onyx Collective "Reasonable Doubt " featuring actors McKinley Freeman and Monty Bell.   They spoke about the unique stories of the new series that was brought to Hulu by a pilot directed by Kerry Washington, who was catapulted to fame by Shonda Rhimes' "Scandal." The WTVM segment this week was on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.  New episodes or "Reasonable Doubt" premiere on Tuesdays  on Hulu.

One film leading into another, "The Love Story of Sp5 Wyley Wright Jr. and Ouida Fay Wright" as Armstrong accurately described "Love Separated in Life…Love Reunited in Honor" was a last-minute addition after a scheduled guest could not make it.

There was no time for the two  to reminisce about working together with then WTVM News Director Steve Faust or Dee's Co-Anchor Dick McMichael,  but the journalists hit on the reality of military life for the children of soldiers, the love generated in caring about memorials, the respect for duty and honor and even the no longer standing Baker High School that was the home of many military families seeking a great education for their children.

"Love Separated in Life…Love Reunited in Honor" has a lesson plan with it that shows how to follow up on family history and advice on how to navigate the complex issues that can arise.  The plan is simple to use in a classroom or conference setting.  Community and corporate groups are welcome to screen the short 15-minute documentary co-directed and edited by Jack LiVolsi of San Francisco's Jackson Street Productions by visiting the website www.lovereunited.org for more information.  The film is multicultural in its development and content.  It depicts the reburial of Sp5 Wyley Wright Jr. after being exhumed after fifty years from a deteriorating segregated cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida at Arlington National Cemetery, March 10, 2014.  Ouida Fay Wright, the mother of his four children was reburied with him after 44 years of being in the historic Green Acres Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia.
They are at rest together at York Dr. & Halsey Dr., grave 59-4977 in Arlington National Cemetery.

Wright is working on her second documentary "When the Dogs Left," that demonstrates how the power of the arts inspired five decades of Black students at the University of Georgia following the institution's integration by students Charlayne Hunter-Gault and Dr. Hamilton Holmes.  A multicultural group including UGA faculty members Jay Hamilton, Keith Wilson, Tom Hiel, Dodie Cantrell-Bickley, and Gregory S. Broughton; along with alumni Beauty Muñoz, Subrena Clark, Jackie Wright, and Felicia Bessent; and recent UGA grads, Tevon Knight and Nick Hayward are working on what is designed to be an international educational experiential tool that will educate about the past and inspire for the future.  The film focuses on the founder of Pamoja (Togetherness),  Pastor Nawanna Lewis Miller, who spawned the artistic groups that were cultural lifelines to thousands of students over the decades. Wright's suggestion to create a documentary about "Pamoja"  is a result of the University of Georgia's recognition of the 2020 pandemic's recalibration of The 50th Anniversary of Pamoja with Dr. Gregory S. Broughton, Associate Professor, University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music as host.  The celebration that was to be live on the UGA campus was reconstructed as an October 18, 2020 ZOOM presentation.
