41% Of Prisoners Reoffend Within Two Years Of Their Release. Dr. Da’Mond T. Holt’s Team Is Changing That

By: Get News

Recently released prisoners within the United States notoriously face a difficult adjustment back into society. Many set out with every intention to change for the better, but find support is lacking on the outside.

With a staggering 41% of American prisoners back behind bars within two years of their release, it’s clear there is a lack of support within the system. Dr. Da’Mond T. Holt, an Arizona based Trauma/PTSD and Mental Health Specialist, found himself unable to sit back and passively watch while people, who were craving to create a new life for themselves, struggled once released from prison.

So in June of 2019, Fresh Start was born with a strong mission: to become a place where everyone, from any walk of life, can create a new beginning.

Fresh Start focuses on changing the policies and procedures of the justice and court systems to be more rehabilitative, rather than highly punitive and punishing - the goal being to see a nationwide reduction in prison recidivism.

We are helping to aid the formerly incarcerated to never return to prison by providing the correct support, skills, and services they need to rebuild, redevelop, and restart their lives.” - says founder and CEO, Dr. Holt.

Fresh Start holds a piece of Arizona state history by having created the largest public safety event of its time. In just two years, Fresh Start has helped over 1,000 people to rebuild their lives.

We have resolved 200 warrants at our event and not one person was arrested and brought into custody at any event we’ve held. We are really doing all we can to help the people of Arizona.” - Dr. Holt passionately spoke.

He aims to expand Fresh Start to every major American city to reform and impact recidivism, setting out to even provide the formerly incarcerated with employment and housing, and to call upon political leaders to create fairer, more balanced legislations.
