LOS ANGELES, CA, August 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- First time Feature Film Writer/Director Myles Yaksich's Film ALBATROSS will drop today on all major VOD platforms (including Apple iTunes & Amazon) for rent and own on North American digital HD internet and satellite platforms. Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen's Allen Media Group, has acquired the North American VOD rights to the dramatic thriller through Freestyle Digital Media.
ALBATROSS is a dark, dramatic thriller that examines the concept of self (identity, ethnicity and sexual orientation) in the context of society, while illustrating the compromises individuals are willing to make to feel as though they belong. Worlds collide at an awkward dinner party in 1959 New England. After moving to a new town, Elizabeth and Thomas Miller are at a crossroad; they are childless, he's an unpublished writer and she's tired of cutting checks to keep them afloat. Thomas' work suffers to the point that his publisher wants him to ditch his novel about the Black experience to write a more commercially viable harlequin romance. Carol and Dr. Lloyd Burke have built an imposing façade glorifying the societal ideals of the era; an impressive home, prominent role at the country club, and son studying medicine. But, behind closed doors, the couple's haunted by the cracks in their relationship and his use of controversial psychiatric techniques. ALBATROSS is riddled with opposing philosophical perspectives, forcing the characters to question the stability of their respective relationships and consider how the past or future will continue to nurture or deteriorate them. Ultimately, tables are turned, secrets revealed, and we're left questioning who really pulls the strings in this game of chess.
Written and directed by Myles Yaksich in his feature directorial debut, ALBATROSS comes from the award-winning team behind POPPIES and ERIN. ALBATROSS was produced by James Mark and Bruno Marino, with Jennie Lew Tugend (the Free Willy and Lethal Weapon Franchises), Myles Yaksich, Aleksey Petrov, Larry & Gayle Yaksich, Todd Slater and Grant Slater serving as executive producers. Cinematography is by Dylan Chapgier, costume design by Christopher Paunil, and an original score by Emmy-winning composer, Nicholas Pike.
With a cast emanating from Canada's finest stages, ALBATROSS features compelling performances from Sarah Orenstein ('Carol Burke'), Romaine Waite ('Thomas Miller'), David Keeley ('Dr. Lloyd Burke'), and Katherine Gauthier ('Elizabeth Miller'). Additional cast includes: Jill Frappier ('Barbara'), David Huband ('Bertram Fontaine'), Thom Nyhuus ('Kenneth Parks'), Mikaela Bisson ('Young Woman'), Daniel Krmpotic ('Young Blonde Man'), and Jonathon LeRose ('Young Brunette Man').
"Conceptually, I'm fascinated by the ways we cope with challenging experiences to either grow or stagnate. Social media's made it too easy to shut the door, block an account, or add more filters to categorize others as either fitting within or outside of our own bubble," said filmmaker Myles Yaksich. "With ALBATROSS, I wanted to go back to a time where differing ideas were analyzed and discussed intellectually, not just blocked emotionally. What happens when you can't leave the dinner table?"
Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire ALBATROSS directly with Todd Slater of Slater Brothers Entertainment.
