Marquis Who's Who Honors Dave Mittig for Expertise in Entrepreneurship and Carpentry

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / October 23, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Dave Mittig for his work as the founder and chief executive officer of Handy Chaps. A master carpenter with more than 45 years of construction expertise, Mr. Mittig has since turned his attention to equipping hardworking professionals with protective workwear. Inspired by his own career experience, his current venture promises to deliver better results for both professionals and clients.

Growing a Professional Career

Mr. Mittig built his career with little more than a high school diploma and a residential building certification from the State of Michigan. He used this certification to launch his first business, New Vision Remodeling and Restoration, where he specialized in custom home remodeling and renovations. Through this work, Mr. Mittig received a Home Remodel of the Year Award in Boyne City.

Following more than a decade of self-employment, Mr. Mittig took a full-time role at Traylor Bros. Inc., one of the nation's leading heavy civic contractors. He began as a concrete finisher and, by 2007, he had advanced to a concrete finish foreman. In that role, he was responsible for the reconstruction of the Interstate 10 twin span bridge over Lake Pontchartrain after it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Three years later, Mr. Mittig was promoted to finish concrete and bulkhead foreman.

Mr. Mittig served in this role for the next four years, constructing the Gulf International Waterway West Closure Complex, the world's largest pump station and the largest sector gate in North America. Completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the project was a $1.1 billion venture, of which Mr. Mittig was proud to be a part.

Mittig Custom Interiors and Handy Chaps

After his employment with Traylor Bros., Mr. Mittig returned to entrepreneurship by founding Mittig Custom Interiors in 2015. Here, he applies his skills as a master carpenter to design, construct and execute high-quality custom interiors and residential projects throughout northern Michigan. In 2021, Mr. Mittig was inspired to design better consumer protective workwear and founded Handy Chaps.

Mr. Mittig realized that, for the past few decades, he had been wiping his hands on his thighs after caulking, painting, drywalling or otherwise. The professionals he worked with did the same, rapidly wearing out quality pants or relying on bulky painter's pants and full-body suits to avoid the issue. Handy Chaps is Mr. Mittig's solution, workwear designed to protect the thighs while maximizing mobility.

Supported by his ambition, Mr. Mittig has grown Handy Chaps into a company trusted by many construction professionals. Ultimately, he believes that his humility enables him to find success, a low-key attitude that helps others recognize his potential.

What's Next for Mr. Mittig

Within the next five to 10 years, it is Mr. Mittig's ambition to get Handy Chaps into everyone's home drawers, not just construction workers. He aims to make this product useful for everyone, whether they are a professional custom interior designer or an amateur home painter. Aside from growing his business, Mr. Mittig hopes to spend more time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
