Hasselblad Releases Ultra-Wide XCD 25mm F2.5 V Lens; More Info and Now In Stock at B&H Photo

Photography News: Hasselblad has announced the widest X system lens yet with the XCD 25mm f/2.5 V lens, offering an ultra-wide field of view, bright maximum aperture, and portable design.

B&H is pleased to announce the Hasselblad XCD 25mm f/2.5 V lens, the widest XCD lens yet and the latest V-series lens in Hasselblad’s portable medium format mirrorless system. This prime lens offers a field of view similar to that of a 20mm lens on full-frame and features a speedy f/2.5 maximum aperture that excels in low-light conditions and provides greater control over depth of field. It also features a relatively compact, lightweight design that matches cameras like the X2D and 907X for walkaround and travel shooting. The new XCD measures 4.1” long and weighs 1.3 lb, which is about twice as large as the XCD 28mm f/4 P, but gains more than twice the speed and has a wider field of view that’s ideal for architecture, interior, and landscape needs.

Hasselblad is adding an ultra-wide-angle prime to its mirrorless X System with the XCD 25mm f/2.5 V lens—the widest lens for the system yet, offering a field of view close to that of a 20mm on full-frame, along with a speedy f/2.5 design that excels in low-light conditions. (Photo: Business Wire)

In terms of physical design, the lens is like other V-series lenses with dedicated focus and control rings. The focus ring has a push-pull mechanism for shifting between AF and MF modes; when the focus ring is slid into the MF position, a depth of field scale is revealed and there are hard focus stops at the minimum and infinity focus positions. The control ring, which is assignable, is set to adjust the aperture by default and there is a side switch to enable changing between click stops and smooth, click-less operation depending on preference.

The XCD 25mm f/2.5 V can focus as close as 9.8” away, translating to a 1:5.8 maximum magnification, which is useful for exaggerating foreground subjects with the ultra-wide field of view. Hasselblad also stated the optical design has been arranged to include a small focus group and a responsive linear stepper motor for quick, precise autofocus, especially with the PDAF systems of the X2D or CFV 100C. Optically, it has four aspherical elements and three ED elements—practically, this just means the lens is sharp and well-controlled in terms of distortion and color. And just like all XCD V-series lenses, the new lens has a leaf shutter that supports shooting at up to 1/4000 sec with flash sync available at all speeds.
