Cognitive Health Tests Pilot Launches in Massachusetts and Bay Area to Explore Early Memory Screening

NEWTON, MA - The Cognitive Health Tests pilot has officially launched in Newton, Massachusetts, introducing a short, noninvasive memory screening experience intended for research and exploratory purposes. The project aims to determine whether a lightweight and resident-friendly approach can provide meaningful insights into early cognitive changes while maintaining strict standards for confidentiality, safety, and voluntary participation.

The pilot includes a series of brief cognitive tasks that assess short-term memory, attention, processing speed, language, reasoning, and orientation. Activities include word recall, verbal fluency exercises, number repetition, simple calculations, and attention-based tasks, along with an experimental speech patterns component designed to explore potential insights into cognitive and language function. All tasks are intentionally designed to minimize stress and discomfort, allowing participants to engage comfortably and withdraw at any time without consequence.

“This pilot reflects a commitment to making cognitive screening more approachable, respectful, and accessible,” said project lead and founder Jonathan Xue. “Early observation of memory changes can be valuable, and this project explores whether a simple and low-pressure experience can contribute meaningfully to future efforts.” Xue added, “Equally important is the emphasis on privacy, dignity, and participant comfort, which remain core priorities throughout every stage of the project.”

No personal identifiers, demographic information, medical records, or audio or video recordings are collected. Only anonymous outcomes such as pass or fail indicators or total scores are stored, and all data is used solely to evaluate the effectiveness and usability of the screening tool. Results are not shared externally, sold, or used for commercial purposes. The project follows strict ethical guidelines and is conducted with leadership oversight and formal approval.

The pilot builds upon prior trial implementations conducted at Sunrise of Newton in Newton, Massachusetts and Sunny View in Cupertino, California, with two planned implementations in Dublin, California and San Francisco, California. These earlier trials generated positive feedback from participants and reported no adverse effects, supporting the continued development and evaluation of the screening format.

The Cognitive Health Tests pilot is driven by a broader goal of contributing to early memory detection efforts through respectful, community-centered research. By combining established cognitive assessment principles with accessible design and careful data protection, the project seeks to inform future improvements in screening methodologies.

The Cognitive Health Tests pilot is an exploratory research initiative focused on evaluating a brief, accessible memory screening tool. The project emphasizes participant comfort, confidentiality, and ethical data handling to support responsible innovation in cognitive health research.
