According to UN reports, over 60,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 146,000 injured as of July 2025 in the conflict in Gaza, with 90% of the population displaced. Many families have been forced to flee their homes multiple times, with some displaced ten times or more. UN food security experts report that two of three famine thresholds have been reached, with one in three people going without food for days at a time and over 20,000 children treated for acute malnutrition since April 2025.

Goodwill Caravan's Salaam Centre serves as a central hub for refugees escaping the Gaza conflict, helping displaced families resettle in Egypt while providing recovery and healing support services. The charity has multiple centers worldwide, but has focused its current efforts on Cairo due to the urgent need to support thousands of people fleeing conflicts in both Gaza and Sudan. Many families arrive at the center with limited resources and require immediate assistance with basic necessities, medical care, and psychological support to help children process trauma from conflict exposure.

The charity provides emergency food distributions, primary medical care, temporary shelter coordination, and specialized programs for children who have experienced trauma. Mental health support includes creative therapies tailored to help young people process their experiences through safe, therapeutic activities.

"Families arriving at the Salaam Centre typically need help with everything from emergency medical treatment to finding safe accommodation," said a spokesperson for Goodwill Caravan. "We've found that combining immediate aid with skills training and family reunification services gives people the best chance of establishing a stable life."

Goodwill Caravan's global network includes operations in Greece, Pakistan, Libya, Germany, France, and the UK, with each center adapted to meet specific regional needs. The organization maintains a focus on supporting unaccompanied minors, vulnerable families, and those requiring specialized medical or legal assistance.

The Salaam Centre currently faces increased demand as displacement continues across Gaza; the charity says that funding requirements have grown significantly to meet basic needs, including food, medical supplies, temporary accommodation, and therapeutic program materials.
