Leading Brighton-based independent mortgage broker Everest Mortgages is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
-- Founded by John Everest, Everest Mortgages has grown from a kitchen-table startup into a trusted local business, having successfully delivered over 1,000 mortgages for clients from all walks of life. Built entirely through word of mouth, determination and a commitment to truly independent advice, the firm has established a strong reputation for putting clients first.
John Everest started his career at Lloyds Bank in 2005, where he spent over a decade working in credit operations and debt recovery. As an expert team leader for more than eight years, John managed teams supporting clients through financial difficulty, arranging repayment plans and consistently exceeding performance targets.
John said: “Working in banking taught me a huge amount about money management and the pressures people face, but I realised I wanted to help people in a more positive, long-term way – not just managing debt, but helping them with the biggest financial commitment of their lives.”
After gaining experience as a mortgage broker with an independent firm, John decided to take the next step and establish Everest Mortgage Services, despite having no client base. John operated the business from home in its early years, before moving into offices in Southwick four years later, where it remains today.
He built the business from scratch using mainly word of mouth, and from the outset he wanted to remain independent.
“Rather than working for a single bank, I wanted to be whole-of-market,” John added. “That way, every client could get a full, honest comparison of what’s available, no matter their circumstances.”
This approach has enabled Everest Mortgages to support everyone from first-time buyers, homeowners looking to remortgage or consolidate debts, growing families needing more space, and clients funding home improvements such as loft conversions and extensions.
As Everest Mortgages looks to the future, John’s passion for the business and its clients remains unchanged.
“I am immensely proud of what I have achieved and the number of people I have helped in the past ten years. I love what we do, I love helping our clients, and our goal is simply to help as many people as possible across Brighton and Hove, Sussex and the UK. I can’t see the next 10 years being any different.”
