2025 Innovation Award for Excellence in Robotic Surgery Awarded to Intermountain Health St. Vincent

Intermountain St. Vincent Regional Hospital Honored with 2025 Innovation in Healthcare Award for Excellence in Robotic Surgery

(PRUnderground) November 21st, 2025

The prestigious 2025 Innovation in Healthcare Award by the Montana Hospital Association has been awarded to Intermountain St. Vincent Regional Hospital for the hospital’s groundbreaking Robotics Hub Project and its transformative impact on patient care and surgical innovation.

The Robotics Hub Project, a physician initiated and physician led program based out of Intermountain St. Vincent, allows providers to proctor and consult virtually, in real time, during robotic-assisted surgeries as if they were in the operating room.

Surgeons who are certified experts in robotic-assisted surgery are able to remotely see surgery in action, allowing for the training, assistance, and education of fellow providers. Intermountain Health’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge robotics technology is rooted in the belief that high-quality medical care should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their location.

“By being able to proctor and assist with surgeries remotely, surgeons can view, train, and contribute during robotic surgeries in more home communities,” said Jeff Rentz, MD, a general surgeon and medical director of the robotic surgery program at Intermountain St. Vincent Regional Hospital. “This allows for more physician expertise in the room, providing better care for patients where they are, eliminating the financial impact associated with patient travel cost for necessary medical surgeries.”

The robotic surgery program began over a decade ago, and Intermountain St. Vincent was the first Robotic Surgery Center of Excellence in Montana.

This accreditation recognizes that Intermountain St. Vincent provides patients with the highest quality of care as determined by an independent, external evaluation process from the Surgical Review Corporation.

“Intermountain St. Vincent Regional Hospital has a long history of innovating through robotics surgery. By connecting surgeons throughout the state and region, its Robotics Hub Project not only drives innovation, but shares it in a way that benefits all Montanans,” said Ed Buttrey, Montana Hospital Association President and CEO. “Please help me in congratulating St. Vincent on earning this well-deserved distinction.”

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Montana Hospital Association,” said Dr. Rentz. “The Robotics Hub is more than just a technological advancement.  It’s a commitment to improving outcomes, expanding access, and shaping the future of healthcare in our communities.”

The Montana Hospital Association is a nonprofit organization with more than 80 members that provide the full spectrum of healthcare services. The Innovation in Healthcare Award was established to salute the innovations being developed by Montana’s hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare providers.
