Dr. Canal, a renowned expert in sports dentistry, will spearhead a team of vetted Sports Dentistry professionals. His expertise ensures comprehensive dental care for athletes across all 16 participating delegations and 14 tournament venues. With a deep understanding of the unique dental demands faced by athletes, Dr. Canal can address concerns like mouthguards, dental trauma resulting from collisions, and maintaining optimal oral health for peak performance.
A distinguished graduate of Georgetown University School of Dentistry and recipient of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) National Dental Honor Society Award for Excellence in Clinical Achievement, the dentist brings a wealth of experience to this critical role. Dr. Canal is a respected member of the American Dental Association and the Academy for Sports Dentistry, where he previously served as President.
Dr. Canal’s impressive track record includes serving as CDO for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1999 and 2003. He applies his expertise as Team Dentist for the U.S. Soccer Federation Men’s and Women’s National Teams, Major League Soccer’s D.C. United, and the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League. In addition to his leadership on the world stage, Dr. Canal maintains a successful private practice in Reston, Virginia, where he is a founding partner of the Dental Group at Reston Station.
