eMagin Microdisplays Enable FLIR's ThermaCAM (TM) P640

The first and largest infrared camera manufacturer in the world, FLIR Systems (NASDAQ:FLIR) has chosen eMagin (OTC:EMAN) microdisplays for its innovative ThermaCAM P640 thermal video camera. Ideal for top-level thermography, the P640 can resolve greater detail with smaller targets, yielding more informative and higher quality thermal images.

The device features a new 640x480-pixel sensor that quadruples the typical high-end thermal sensors 320x240-pixel resolution and is 16X the standard 160x120 thermal imager. The camera also supports interchangeable lenses and features an 8:1 continuous digital zoom with full pan technology. Users can choose between auto or manual focus, or use both in combination. Its aiming system is based on built-in Laser LocatIR(TM).

Expanded resolution makes all the difference, said Thomas Lundberg, Strategic Sourcing, FLIR Systems. It can mean seeing or not seeing whether a thermal anomaly even exists. The high-resolution, high-contrast microdisplay in the optical viewfinder enables the thermographer to make use of this resolution to truly pinpoint or diagnose the nature of a problem. FLIR is making the P640 available for sale or lease.

The ThermaCAM P640 provides the resolution, performance, and most important the quality imagery to set the standard for industrial thermal imaging, said Susan Jones, executive vice president and CMO, eMagin Corporation.

OLED Ideal for Near-Eye Applications

Owing to the inherent benefits of its OLED technology, eMagins microdisplays deliver the resolution, brightness, and speed for a broad range of defense and security applications at the lowest system power of any near-eye solution. With signal processing built right into the microdisplay chip, they also eliminate the need for additional processor chips that add complexity and consume additional power. Since they emit light in all directions, OLED microdisplays also accommodate a greater range of pupil movement than traditional LCDs. The worlds lowest power display solution, they provide soldiers with critical information for extended periods in harsh environments, ranging from extreme cold to high heat without additional heaters or coolers. In addition, because the displays are solid-state, they hold the image, even in high-vibration environments.
