$1,250,000 Fraud Verdict in Pradaxa Blood Thinner Trial in Huntington, West Virginia

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - October 24, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

Andy Childers of Childers, Schleuter & Smith of Atlanta, Georgia, and Neal Moskow of Ury & Moskow are pleased to announce that they recovered a $1,250,000 fraud verdict for the Betty Knight family. The case, Knight vs. Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., was tried in federal court in Huntington, West Virginia, between Oct. 3 and Oct. 17, 2018. The verdict entered on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, after approximately five hours of jury deliberation. Also on the trial team with Andy and Neal were Emily Acosta of the Childers firm and Russ Abney, Hunter Linville and Yvette Ferrer of Ferrer, Poirot & Wansbrough, Atlanta, Georgia.

The jury's $1,250,000 fraud verdict included $50,000 in economic damages and $200,000 for pain and suffering, together with the $1,000,000 punitive damage award - which was the maximum amount allowed under West Virginia law.

There are nearly 3,000 Pradaxa cases pending nationwide, including more than 2,600 on the Connecticut [State Court] Consolidated Pradaxa Docket. There were three trials in Connecticut earlier this year: the jury returned liability findings for the Plaintiffs in two of the trials but declined to find causation or award any damages. The third trial resulted in a defense verdict. The Knight case was the fourth Pradaxa case tried in 2018 and the first Plaintiffs’ verdict in any Pradaxa trial. Another Pradaxa trial will start Dec. 3, 2018, in Columbus, Georgia. Chambers vs. Boehringer Ingelheim is a wrongful death case in which the Plaintiff’s claim is that Pradaxa caused or contributed to the decedent’s fatal gastrointestinal bleed.
