Can Your Greenery Be Greener?

Eco-Friendly Landscaping in 2019

NEW YORK, NY, January 15, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The environment is important. We should all do our part in protecting it so that future generations can appreciate the glory and awe of nature. Surprisingly, gardening and landscaping can actually be bad for the environment if not done correctly. Energy consumption, water waste, and the spread of invasive species are all possible problems that must be avoided.

Here are some of the ways we're addressing those issues:

Energy Consumption
From the energy consumed in the shipping from our vendors to the energy used by landscaping equipment, your carbon footprint can grow quickly when you're in landscaping. That's why, at John Mini Distinctive Landscaping, we only use energy efficient machinery. We've replaced our old gas-powered landscaping equipment with cordless, rechargeable equipment. Not only does this cut down our fossil fuel consumption, but it also reduces noise pollution, allowing us to work without disturbing our clients' neighbors. To further reduce our carbon footprint, we source the majority of our plants and supplies from local vendors, further reducing fossil fuel consumption in delivery.

Water Waste
Too often, irrigation systems use far more water than necessary which is not good for your garden or the environment. Water runoff can lead to soil degradation and it can carry fertilizers, pesticides, and other pollutants into the aquifer or local watersheds. At JMDL, we utilize specific irrigation components for permanent and semi-permanent installations and are careful to only use the necessary amount of water when watering manually.

Invasive Species
Invasive species are known to spread, taking up the precious resources needed by native species. In plants, it should be known that not all non-native species are invasive, only the plants with the ability to reproduce and spread. We avoid the use of all invasive species in non-enclosed areas. We're also looking into more native species for our outdoor installations so that there is no risk of contamination. Invasive species often spread because their beauty entices people to plant them where they don't belong, we avoid that temptation with our knowledge of non-invasive species that are even more impressive.

We want to ensure that nature can be appreciated for generations to come. It has brought us unquantifiable joy on camping trips, hikes, and on other countless treks into the woods. We think it's only fair that we do our part to protect that source of joy for future generations.
