Mike Marko Publishes New Post about Mistakes to Avoid in How to Design a Logo

Mike Marko, founder, and owner of Cincinnati, Ohio-based IM Consultant Services announced that he has recently published a blog post titled “Mistakes to Avoid in How to Design a Logo”. According to him, making a logo may seem simple but it isn’t. That’s why he made this blog post. Marko says he wants to help entrepreneurs and business owners make the best logo for their business.

According to Marko, a business logo is more than just fonts, and figures put together. It represents a business. It creates the first impression most consumers will remember for a long time. “Business owners need to make the best logo for their brand,” says Marko. “The logo helps establish your identity in the market and that makes a business logo very important. Having the best logo makes a brand easier to recognize and remember. Having a bad logo can make your brand more forgettable. It can also make it harder for people to figure out what your business does, in some cases.”

Marko also notes that knowing how to design a logo is part of a branding strategy. Having knowledge about it can help business owners to stand out from their competitors.

There are many guides on the Internet about how to design a logo. These usually teach business owners in different industries how to make the best logo for their brand. Marko knows this so he went in a different direction. His new blog post talks about what business owners shouldn’t do when designing a business logo instead.

In his article, Marko lists the common mistakes that a business owner should avoid in this process. He says that there are no shortcuts in designing a logo. This is a process that requires careful thought, planning, and creativity.

That said, Marko insists that knowing what to avoid is as helpful as knowing what to do when making a business logo. According to him, knowing the don’ts helps in avoiding the pitfalls from the start so business owners can focus only on ideas that may actually work. This reduces the amount of wasted effort and resources from the very beginning of the process.

In his new blog post, Marko lists 6 of the worst mistakes to avoid when designing a logo for business. He starts his list by telling entrepreneurs and business owners to avoid using irrelevant font types. According to Marko, there are many fonts to choose from but that doesn't mean business owners can pick just any one of those at random. It’s best to choose the one that fits their brand.

“Fonts can describe a brand,” says Marko. “The text on a logo is part of the image you’re presenting to consumers. People can even sometimes figure out what type of business you have by just looking at the font. If you run a fun business like one that organizes kids’ parties, for example, you should pick a font that reflects that -- maybe something whimsical. That helps people get a sense of what you do. Picking a more sober font, like Times New Roman, wouldn’t be in line with your trade and may confuse people. They’ll wonder if you’re really the right person to hire to organize their kid’s party if even your logo looks too serious.”

For Marko, the second worst mistake to avoid is designing an unscaleable logo. He says that business owners and entrepreneurs should use a logo that’s scalable so they can use it anywhere.

In his new blog post, Marko also notes that a business logo should never have little complicated details. The best logo for a business should have meaningful but minimal details.

The third mistake to avoid, according to Marko’s guide on making a business logo, is using multicolored 3d logos. Marko says that multicolored 3d logos are attractive but can’t help a brand. He states that multicolored 3d logos are hard to remember, for one thing. They also tend to rely too much on their colors and details. The best logo for a business should be recognizable in either colored or black and white form.

The next mistake to avoid in making a business logo is having too much text. Marko says that many entrepreneurs and business owners come up with a clean image or symbol to represent their brand, then ruin it by putting too much text around it. Marko states that the text on a logo is supposed to be straightforward and concise. Never add too much text because it will make the logo harder to scale.

The later part of Marko’s blog post tells business owners and entrepreneurs to avoid designing a logo using stock images. Using stock images allows business owners to create logos fast and easy. This seems like a good thing but Marko is against it. He says that those business logos are uninspired and unoriginal. Instead of doing that, they should create one of their own. Marko says that the logo is made to represent a brand, after all, and should thus be an original representation of the business.

Moreover, Marko says in his blog post to avoid using an aesthetically-challenged logo. He says, “Never use an ugly logo. If a logo doesn’t look good, it can have a negative effect on the company.”

Those who are interested in this topic about designing a business logo can follow Marko to his website to read this and other posts that he has published on business branding and digital marketing.
