GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Born and incubated at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City, GivingTuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

On May 5 of this year, GivingTuesday launched #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity created as an emergency response to COVID-19. This event generated activity in 145 countries and resulted in a total of $503M in online donations contributed in the U.S. alone.

Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to give.

GivingTuesday is generously supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, PayPal, Craig Newmark Philanthropies, the Emerson Collective, Fidelity Charitable, the Ford Foundation, Ford Motor Company, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
