EnBW exits U.S. offshore wind market days after partnership wins prized bid

EnBW has announced plans to exit the U.S. offshore wind market only days after its partnership with TotalEnergies won a prized bid in the New York Bight lease auction.

TotalEnergies will acquire EnBW's North America operations. EnBW will focus its attention on Europe's offshore wind opportunities following successful auctions in the UK, the company said.

Finally have a chance to update details about #NYBight winners:

EnBW is developing a 900-MW offshore wind project in the North Sea and recently won auctions in England/Whales and Scotland for three projects with 6 GW of combined capacity.

Attentive Energy, the partnership formed by EnBW and Total Energies, acquired the second-most expensive lease in the New York Bight auction. They acquired 79,438 developable acres for $795 million.

EnBW leadership congratulated TotalEnergies on a successful auction and said they would support the companies efforts in North America moving forward.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management listed the installation capacity for OCS-A 0538, the area acquired by EnBW and TotalEnergies, at 964 MW. The agency acknowledged, however, that capacity could be higher depending on the development plans of the winning bidder.

TotalEnergies intends to build a project with "at least" 3 GW of capacity, more than three times BOEM's original estimate for the slice of New York Bight.

With its acquisition of EnBW North America, TotalEnergies will also take on the company's predevelopment work for the upcoming offshore wind lease auction off the coast of Central California.

In total, TotalEnergies has a global offshore wind project pipeline of more than 10 GW.
