FT Global Pte Ltd Wins Praise for Cage-Free Egg Practice

By: Issuewire

Singapore, Singapore Sep 11, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - FT Global Pte Ltd, a leading distributor specializing in fresh eggs, soft drinks, and drinking water, won praise today from the international NGO Lever Foundation for its practice of sourcing only cage-free eggs. The Singapore-based company supplies a wide range of customers, such as local bakeries, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, and institutions.

"At FT Global, we are committed to delivering the highest quality products that meet the needs and expectations of our valued customers," said Alex Fan at FT Global. "As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize customer satisfaction and uphold our standards of excellence, we have been using only cage-free eggs since 2018, to support animal welfare and a more sustainable food system."

FT Global utilizes duck eggs from cage-free farms for its popular Black Taurus Salted Egg Fish Skin Crisps, the company's flagship products.

"We applaud FT Global for its responsible sourcing practices, specifically related to cage-free eggs," said Vilosha Sivaraman, Program Manager at Lever Foundation. "As consumers become more discerning about the ethical treatment of animals and food safety concerns associated with their preferred food choices, companies that proactively address these issues are undoubtedly ahead of the competition."

Cage-free eggs are laid by hens free to move around in barns and free-range environments without being confined to small cages. Research shows that cage-free eggs are both more humane to animals and have much higher levels of food safety and quality. The European Food Safety Authority has found cage-free egg farms have up to a 25 times lower risk of contamination from key salmonella strains. As a result, a ban on caged egg production is underway in the European Union and some other global regions. Many international and local organizations encourage a shift to cage-free egg production to benefit public health, animal welfare, and sustainability.

A growing number of leading companies have pledged to source only cage-free eggs for their operations in Asia and globally, including packaged food manufacturers Bakkavor, Unilever, Danone, Nestle, Kraft, and Mondelez, retailers such as Tesco, Costco, METRO and Aldi, and food service companies such as Aramark, Compass Group and Sodexo. An increasing number of consumers are also reducing or eliminating eggs from their meals entirely, the most significant way to protect the welfare of hens.
